Fishers

Ogyre's fishers are professionals whose primary occupation is small-scale fishing. During their regular activities, marine litter often becomes entangled in their nets or gear. Traditionally, this waste is treated as an unwanted by-product of fishing operations, requiring additional time and effort to manage without formal recognition or compensation.

Through Ogyre’s Fishing for Litter operations, this often invisible work becomes a recognized environmental service. Fishers collect marine litter encountered during their regular fishing activities or dedicated missions at sea and bring it ashore, helping remove waste that has already entered marine environments.

Within Ogyre’s Ocean Waste Collection Activities (see Ogyre Protocol for more details), fishers contribute to Ocean preservation through their daily presence on the water, their direct connection to the sea, and their knowledge of local marine ecosystems and waste pathways. By bringing collected waste back to land, they ensure it can be properly managed and tracked.
