Coastal waste

Coastal waste (also called “ocean-bound waste”) refers to materials that, due to ineffective or absent management, have a high likelihood of reaching rivers, seas, and the Ocean. The term mainly covers waste located along coastal areas or near waterways—typically within 50 km from the coast—where the risk of transport into marine environments is greatest. Identifying and intercepting these flows is essential to prevent the leakage of waste and plastics and their accumulation in marine ecosystems.
